I would like to donate a 6 year old healthy trained Arabian gelding to the force. He is broke to drive and to ride. He is affectionate, has a great mind and is willing to work. Up to date on shots, worming, shoes, teeth etc. I have MS and cannot keep up with him.
So sorry to hear about your situation. Usually the horses that the unit is looking for are larger breed horses but I will check with the unit to see if they are still looking for an additional horse.
Hello, my name is Hannah, and I am a trained horse groom, currently working on the Equine Programs team at Greenfield Village. I’m looking for additional work, as I only work one or two days a week at The Henry Ford, and I wonder if there’s an opening for a groom?
I’m so sorry for my late reply.
All of our positions with the units are volunteer only.
They also only allow officers with the Department to work on the horses themselves.
There are opportunities to help volunteer during our spring cleaning and fall clean up days – but not anything that would be on a consistent basis.
You can always contact the units directly and see if there are other opportunities I may not know of 🙂
Good luck to you!
Hi, Im with the Garden City Santaland Parade. In the past we had the Wayne County Horses in our parade, who would I talk to about inviting them back? This year the parade is Sat. Nov. 26.
You can contact Wayne County Mounted Unit directly.
Sgt. Lee Smith
I just spoke with Sgt Smith about picking up some manure but I for got to ask where exactly the barn is located!
Hi Deborah. the barn is located at the corner of Hines Drive & Newburg in Livonia
You can find the information on the contact us page of the website as well
Are you currently hiring for the mounted police and what is the process?
Hello Dustin. We do not hire for any of the Mounted Units. This is all done through each City or County Unit.
We suggest reaching out to them directly to inquire about any opportunities within the department.
Our Foundation is strictly volunteer and no one is paid for any position or time we spend supporting the units. We always welcome those that would like to help us r donate their time 😊
I have 15 years of equine experience and would love to volunteer. Please let me know if there are any openings.
Hi Dawn! That’s great that you are interested and we always love to have volunteers to help out! Please email us at Restorethehorse@gmail.com and we can discuss details of how to get involved.
Watching your Hines Park ride I listened to the idea that the mounted officers needed a place to train in the colder weather. We have two arenas that have some availability. Not sure what your needs are but always willing to discuss. Our one arena is 100 by 200, the other 65 by 200. Thanks, Gary 734-645-9520.
Thanks Gary! That’s a very kind offer. I will relay that information to the Unit and maybe we can work out some training days over the winter while we work on the new facility?
